Broncos hired ex-Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio as defensive coordinator.

He's a nice replacement for Dennis Allen, who was considered a big loss when he left for the Raiders' head-coaching job. Unlike in Jacksonville, Del Rio will have pass rushers to work with in Denver in Von Miller, Elvis Dumervil, and Robert Ayers. Del Rio has overseen both 4-3 and 3-4 schemes and could run a hybrid defense with the Broncos. It's a natural fit, as 48-year-old Del Rio was John Fox's defensive coordinator with the Panthers in 2002.

Browns head coach Pat Shurmur reportedly plans to continue calling plays for now, although that could change following Friday's hire of Brad Childress as offensive coordinator.

Shurmur's playcalling didn't exactly evoke fireworks in 2011 (or 2010 with the Rams, for that matter), but the thought of Childress getting the nod is even less appetizing. According to reports out of Cleveland, Shurmur is tentatively expected to open the 2012 season calling plays. He could turn those duties over to Chilly if the offense struggles out of the gate.

Sporting News draft analyst Russ Lande believes Boise State QB Kellen Moore is in danger of going undrafted after a poor Senior Bowl.

Per Lande, Moore "will have to be amazing at the Combine and his Pro Day if he hopes to get drafted." Compared in stature to an equipment manager rather than a quarterback by FOX's Alex Marvez, Moore reportedly showed "below average arm strength" and was inaccurate on passes beyond ten yards in Mobile.

Brandon Marshall revealed at the Pro Bowl that he's reached out to free agent Matt Flynn about the possibility of signing with the Dolphins.

"Matt is available," Marshall said. "We've talked. I reached out to him." Marshall observed that Matt Moore did an "outstanding job" late in the 2011 season, but is hoping the Dolphins find a quarterback who can take them to the next level. "We need someone who is going to grab a hold of our offense, hold everyone accountable and be that leader," said Marshall.

Though NFL Network's Mike Mayock concedes he's yet to do intensive film study on Baylor QB Robert Griffin III, he believes Griffin throws the football more "naturally" than 2011 No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton.

"I watched his wide receiver (Kendall Wright) because he's a senior, I watched his tailback (Terrance Ganaway) because he's a senior," Mayock said on Rich Eisen's podcast. "... RG3, I gotta go watch a bunch of tape on him and try and figure him out. Here's what I do know: He throws the ball naturally, even better than Cam Newton did in college. He's not as big. ... We've got a lot of homework to do on this young man. And I'm the first one to put my hand up and say I can't even tell you what I think he is other than a really gifted kid."

The player rep for free agent Stevie Johnson reiterated Friday that the Bills have yet to approach him about a contract extension.

"We did speak to them following (GM) Buddy (Nix)'s press conference," said agent C.J. LaBoy. "But we have had no contract talks." LaBoy did indicate hope that discussions could be sparked around the Combine. "The Bills have options," LaBoy conceded. "They can use the franchise tag on him, they can negotiate an extension, or they can let him walk. It is no secret where Stevie’s heart is, but ... he has to do what is best for his family."

Impending free agent SLB Jarret Johnson was the only Ravens player to show up to new defensive coordinator Dean Pees' introductory press conference.

Pees was Johnson's 2011 position coach, but his attendance could also be taken a sign that he wants badly for the Ravens to re-sign him. "Me being here today has nothing to do about my future," Johnson insisted. "It has everything to do with (Pees') future." Johnson is entering his age-31 campaign. It's fair to wonder if Pees may want to go younger at his position.

All of Sidney Rice's $7 million salary for 2012 was guaranteed in the contract he signed last July.

There are indications Rice's body may be letting him down at a young age, but the Seahawks lack the capability of getting out of his high-priced deal if he can't play football in 2012. We don't know that it's even a possibility, but Rice suffered three concussions in a 12-month span and is having both shoulders repaired surgically this offseason. His 2012 cap number is $8.2 million.
